Pani Puri!

The name itself is mystifying.  Pani = water, puri = which is crunchy, two contrasting thing together results into an awe-inspiring taste!

The sourness of tamarind, spicy taste of coriander & green chilies, dash of jaggery, nutty taste of cumin, tangy aroma of mint leaves along with salt & water makes a drink which rejuvenates & awakens the dull & dead taste buds.
While doing little research on the same, I came to know that Pani Puri is a famous chat all over India. Even it is a delicacy in Nepal.  Each region has its own modifications/ additions in recipe and also has different names. Pani Puri is also known as Gol gappa in Delhi, Phuchka in Bengal & Gup Chup in Orissa & southern part of Jharkhand.

Some add boiled potatoes, boondi/sev & some add sprouts to enhance the taste. Pani Puri can be prepared with different types of Pani, like tamarind or lime or mint. I always prefer Teekha Pani, but a mixture of both teekha & meetha in a proper proportion is also a nice combo.

As I was wondering about modifications that can be done on the recipe so that it becomes Navya’s style of Pani Puri, a word struck to my mind, and that is “Vodka”! Yes, I wondered how good it would be to replace plain water with vodka & little of soda (to dilute the alcohol) and retaining rest of recipe. It would be another cocktail presented with Puri. Should try preparing & tasting once. ;)

The roadside Madka puri is another similar & amazing chat. On a small stool a big basket of properly arranged puris and variety of masala powder along with pot of meetha & teekha Pani. I devour when he serve one gol gappa after another in that small pretty plate.  The whole joyful ride of tasty chat ends at a great note of sukha puri. Its taste last for a long time in my mouth. Like SRK & Anushka did in Rabne banadi Jodi movie, even I should check my capacity of consuming Pani Puris.

On whole, Pani Puri ya Gol Gappa it is a Jink Jakk chat.  Jai ho Pani Puri!!  J

P.S: Author has not tasted vodka yet.
